Introduction

This course is similar in content to the Beginner Course but is just one day long.  Suitable for people who just want a taster session before signing up for a full weekend or have only limited spare time.

Pre-requisites:

The course is outdoors all day and involves quite a lot of walking and some light lifting.

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to the horses, demonstration of horse care and tack.
  • Explanation of the benefits of traditional methods of woodland management and the tools and equipment used.
  • Demonstration and hands-on experience of long reining the horse.
  • Learning about the equipment and how to use it to extract timber.
  • How to snig the logs ready for hauling.
  • Long reining experience, starting with the basics and progressing over the day to develop skills.

This course is a learning opportunity and the pace is intended to ensure that everyone has the time to learn.  The course runs with a maximum of 4 participants to make sure everyone gets a good amount of time long reining the horse.  If you have a group of more than 4 and would like to spend a day with us then please contact us to create a bespoke day just for you.
